Why is Jaipur called Pink city ?
Prince Albert and Victoria were about to visit India in 1876, and at that time Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh was one of the powerful kings of Jaipur in India and he don’t want to miss the ideal opportunity to strengthen ties with the Britishers and that’s why he asked Prince Albert and Victoria to visit Jaipur.
After Prince Assurance, he ordered to beautify the city and that’s why he ordered to color the whole city with terracotta pink which historically represents welcoming and hospitality.
From then onwards, the color of this beautiful city is pink, especially the historical building and buildings lies within the five famous gates of Jaipur and each year state govt. used to recolor the city to maintain the tagline of “heritage city of India” that is true also.
This actually attracts large numbers of tourists from India as well as outside of India, which is quite profitable for the government., people and the city itself.
